General topics

Which brand is behind edelwiser?
Edelwiser is a fully independent ski brand.

Where are edelwiser skis produced?
Our skis are specially produced to our exact specifications by a number of small ski and snowboard manufacturers.

How does edelwiser quality compare with the big ski brands?
Edelwiser skis are a top quality product. Our products are handmade to our exacting standards.

Can I have my own design put on any brand of ski?
No, we’re far too proud of our own skis for that! Part of our philosophy is independent ski design.

Where can I test edelwiser skis?
We hold many meetings and we also have test partners. Test skis can also be delivered on request.

Which racers use edelwiser skis?
Edelwiser skis do not conform to FIS regulations, as they are made for free skiing in a broad range of situations rather than the heavily regulated individual racing disciplines. Our skis are hence subjected to fewer limitations.

Ski models, ski lengths, uses

How many ski models does edelwiser offer?
We have three models – Swing, Speed and Firnis.

Which model is most suitable for me?
Swing – a very versatile ski for a broad variety of conditions and suitable for almost all skiers seeking fun with turns.
Speed – for the advanced carver who favours carved turns.
Firnis – for fans of twin tips and also particularly suited to telemark skiers.

What lengths do the different models come in?
Swing 162 cm, Speed 172 cm, Firnis 170 and 180 cm.

Which length is most suitable for me?
The length of ski you choose is determined not so much by your height and weight as your preferences when skiing. Please contact us if assitance is needed!

Can I use edelwiser skis for telemark skiing?
Yes, especially the longer models (Speed, Firnis).

Can I use edelwiser skis as backcountry skis?
Yes, the width of our skis offers a secure feeling during both ascent and descent.

Ski design questions

Which design features are standard?
edelwiser skis have an ID tag placed just in front of the bindings. The tag includes your member code and name (or any other text you desire – up to 28 characters per ski). Under the binding we also place a center tag, a small marking to assist in mounting the bindings.ski_tags

How do I get my own design?
You can either design your skis yourself or choose a ready-made design from the edelwiser ski art gallery in the edelwiser online shop. We can also alter the ready-made designs in accordance with your wishes. Of course, you can also customise the style of the ID tag to match your own ski design.

How do I design my own ski?
edelwiser has ski design masterfiles that can be downloaded from our website. Using these files in combination with graphics software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Gimp) you can design your skis on a 1:1 scale. You can use vector or pixel graphics. When downloading the masterfiles please make sure that you download your selected ski model and your file format. Once you’ve done that, you’re away!

I don’t have my own graphics software and don’t know what to do with software either.
In that case we recommend that you either get a creative friend to help you out, get used to the free but very powerful open source software Gimp or have your skis designed for you by edelwiser in accordance with your wishes. We can also adapt ready-made designs from our ski art gallery (as long as we have the rights to a particular design).

How can edelwiser help me design my own ski?
We would be delighted to assist in designing your own ski. To do this we require that you have at least a basic idea of how you would like your ski to look, and, if you would like particular graphics on the ski, we require these in a pixel or vector format. We print your design onto your ski in 200 dpi resolution – so it is important to ensure that your pictures have at least the same resolution and size. If you would like to design your graphics on your own computer and require our support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We also offer interactive online assistance.

What will it cost if edelwiser design my skis for me?
Edelwiser charges 84 Euros per hour for work on ski design. In our experience a design, depending on its complexity, takes between one and three hours to be ready for printing

What are the essentials I need to consider when designing my skis myself?
The masterfiles have a design layer and a mask layer that display the standard design elements and a ski binding to ‘simulate’ the finished design. Please only work in the design layer and send us your design without the mask layer minimised – this is necessary for us to process your design. Your ski design should look like this before you save it:

How can I send my design to edelwiser?

Please upload your completed design at edelwiser.com or send it to us by email.

Bindings and accessories

Where can I get touring skins to fit my edelwiser skis?
Either made to measure from edelwiser or from a specialist outlet.

Can I buy edelwiser skis with the bindings mounted?
Yes. We stock bindings from a variety of manufacturers. When ordering your ski, just let us know your weight and ski boot sole length.

Can I use my own bindings with edelwiser skis?
Any working safety binding can be used, but it is important to check that the ski brakes are suitable for a waist width of 80 mm. Wide brakes can be ordered for many bindings.

What should I look out for when selecting my binding settings?
We urge you to use an expert service. Don’t forget to take both ski boots with you!

Overview

Ski care and tuning

How often should I have my skis serviced?
Have full service carried out at least once a year. Tune your edges whenever they lose their grip or if there is any visible damage. The bases should be ground whenever there are any visible scratches or grooves. If the bases take on a greyish colour, it’s time for waxing, although ideally they should be waxed before they get in this state.

How are edelwiser skis tuned?
All models are supplied with a side edge angle of 88 degrees and radial and structural base grinding. However, we can accommodate any individual tuning requirements.

Is there a service company you particularly recommend?
We find Montana radial grinding gives the best results.

Can I have my skis serviced by edelwiser directly?
You can come to us for all your service and repair needs. You will need to bring or send your skis to us in Vienna. Prices depend on the extent of the service required.

I have badly damaged my edelwiser skis. What can I do?
All damage due to faulty material is fully covered by our guarantee. We will undertake to repair any other damage that should occur, if this is possible. Please send photographs with all enquiries regarding damage.

How should I store my edelwiser skis?
Don't store them in your pool! Some have been known to take their skis to bed with them ;-)
