Nicola Werdenigg-SpiessThe former World Cup ski racer Nicola Werdenigg has turned her passion for skiing into her profession. In 1975 she won the Austrian downhill championships under her maiden name Nicola Spieß. In 1976 she finished fourth in the Olympic downhill in Innsbruck and reached third place in the overall downhill World Cup in the same year. She is a graduate of the ski college of Stams and was a member of the Austrian Ski Team for six years. She is now the co-founder and owner of edelwiser ski.

She was the first woman allowed to take the Austrian ski guide exam and in the 1990s she was one of the ‘inner circle’ of carving pioneers. Meanwhile, Nicola has skied with more than 3,000 clients, helping them become familiar with wide skis.

Skiing with Nicola is a unique experience. Her holistic approach to interpreting skiing helps clients make appreciable changes. In her individual analysis, Nicola focuses on the roots of movement patterns and gives unusual but highly effective tips. She combines her long experience in top-flight racing and coaching with learnings from the study of human movement to enable you to expand your approach to skiing.

First of all, the most important point: “The ski is my teacher. If I interact with it, most things in skiing will take care of themselves.” Whether you’re a newbie or a speed freak, if you value individual coaching and your own personal route to learning, our workshops and edeldays are for you.

No demonstations to emulate! You choose your goal, choose your path. You choose the intensity, the time and the place. Team workshops offer exhilarating arcs, a genuine team feeling and sharing of experience with like-minded participants. – In each workshop you set the agenda, whether it’s overcoming fear, free skiing or the quest for your best racing times.

Extreme lean, inches above the snow, feeling the pull of centrifugal force … extreme experiences that anyone can have a taste of if they just try that little bit harder? Nicola offers group and individual skiing. On request the edelwiser team can organise the entire event for you (selection of location, hotel reservations etc.).

Nicola's Facts

Born in 1958; graduation fomo ski college Stams; degree course in sports science at the University of Innsbruck, qualified Austrian ski instructor and ski guide; national diploma for bioenergetic body work. 1968 Interski Demo-Team Austria; for 6 years member of the Austrian Ski Team competing in the World Cup, 1975 Austrian downhill champion and third in the overall downhill World Cup, 1976 fourth in the Olympic downhill in Innsbruck, ski school director and sports coach with the focus on sports for children and handicapped people, organization of movement and awareness training courses, sports coaching + consulting, co-founder & owner of the company edelwiser – married to Erwin Werdenigg since 1984, 3 children
